PrettyKey Privacy Policy

PrettyKey ("PrettyKey", "we", "us") is a custom keyboard for iPhone that lets you personalize your keyboard with themes, colors, fonts, key styles, and AI-generated designs. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using PrettyKey you agree to the practices described here.

        The most important thing first: PrettyKey does not collect,
        store, or transmit what you type. Your keystrokes, messages, passwords, and the words the
        keyboard learns stay on your device. We never send your typing to our servers or any third
        party. The only exception is the optional AI Writing Tools, which send text
        to our AI provider only when you explicitly tap them — never your ordinary typing
        (see "AI Writing Tools" below).
    

Information We Collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the app. We may collect:

Account information — if you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive an account identifier and your email address. With Sign in with Apple, this may be a private relay address that hides your real email. Use of the app is anonymous by default; signing in is optional.
Device & app information — a per-vendor device identifier, your device language, app version, and platform. The device identifier is used to prevent abuse of free limits.
Push notification token — if you allow notifications, a Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can send you updates (e.g., new themes).
Subscription status — whether you have an active PrettyKey Premium subscription. Payments are processed by Apple; we do not receive your card details.
AI theme prompts — when you use "Create with AI," the text prompt you enter is sent to our server and to our AI provider to generate a background image. Do not include personal or sensitive information in prompts.

What We Do Not Collect

Your keystrokes, typed text, or the contents of any message.
The words the keyboard learns from you — these are stored only on your device (and in your own iCloud if you turn on iCloud Sync).
Your contacts, photo library, or location.

Full Access

iOS asks you to grant the keyboard "Allow Full Access." PrettyKey uses it only to: apply the theme and settings you choose in the app, provide haptic feedback, offer voice typing, and optionally sync your themes and settings through your own iCloud. Granting Full Access does not send your typing to us.

Voice Typing

If you use voice typing, audio is processed by Apple's Speech framework to produce a transcript that is inserted where you're typing. We do not store your audio or transcripts. Apple's handling of speech data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

AI Writing Tools

AI Writing Tools are used only when you tap them (for example "Improve", "Fix spelling & grammar", or a custom instruction you enter). This is the one case where text you choose leaves your device: to fulfil that request, the selected or pasted text and your instruction are sent over an encrypted connection to our server and on to our AI provider (OpenAI), which returns the rewritten text.

This never happens for ordinary typing — your normal keystrokes are still processed on your device and are never sent to us. We do not store the text you send to the AI tools or the results, and our AI provider does not use it to train its models. You can simply not use these tools if you prefer nothing to be sent.

Translation

The in-keyboard Translate tool uses Apple's on-device Translation framework. The text you enter to translate is processed on your device by Apple; it is not sent to PrettyKey's servers and we never receive or store it. Apple may download language packs to your device to enable translation. Apple's handling of this data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Notes

Notes you create in PrettyKey are stored on your device, and — if you enable iCloud Sync — in your own iCloud account so they follow you across your devices. Your notes are never sent to PrettyKey's servers, and we cannot read them.

Clipboard History

If you turn on Clipboard History, recently copied text is stored only on your device so you can paste it again from the keyboard. It is never sent to PrettyKey's servers. You can pin, delete, or clear items, and turn the feature off, at any time in the app.

iCloud Sync (optional)

If you enable iCloud Sync, your themes, preferences, learned words, and notes are stored in your own iCloud account (Apple's iCloud Key-Value storage) so they follow you across your devices. This data is not sent to PrettyKey's servers, and we cannot read it. You can turn sync off at any time in the app.

Third-Party Services

We rely on trusted providers to operate the app:

Google Firebase — authentication, cloud storage for AI theme images, remote configuration, and push notifications.
Apple — Sign in with Apple, speech recognition, iCloud, and subscription billing through the App Store.
Google — Sign in with Google (if you choose it).
OpenAI — generates a background image from your "Create with AI" prompt, and powers the AI Writing Tools when you use them.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms.

How We Use Information

To operate and secure the app and your account.
To manage subscriptions and unlock premium features.
To generate AI themes you request.
To send notifications you've opted into.
To prevent fraud and abuse of free limits.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

Data Retention & Account Deletion

We keep account data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from Account → Delete Account in the app. Deletion permanently removes your user record, any AI theme images generated for you, and your authentication account from our systems. On-device data remains until you delete the app.

Children

PrettyKey is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with reputable cloud providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of PrettyKey after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
